What is CIIIC Kern?

The CIIIC Kern call offers a total of €5 million in funding for demand-driven research focused on testing and validating methods for IX applications. Consortia of SMEs, public organisations and research institutions can collaborate on projects lasting 1.5 to 2 years, with a maximum grant of €300,000 per project. The grant can only be applied for by researchers affiliated with a higher education institution.

Think of research questions such as:

  • How can public values be safeguarded in IX applications?
  • What are the preconditions for the responsible use of IX within public organisations?
  • How can IX methods be validated for specific application domains?

Who is this relevant for?

CIIIC Kern is intended for:

  • Researchers from universities of applied sciences and universities who want to conduct practice-oriented research into IX applications.
  • Immersive makers who want to substantiate their working methods and approaches with research
  • Public organisations (healthcare, education, culture, municipalities) that want to deploy IX and need validated approaches

Difference with CIIIC Start

Whereas CIIIC Start focuses on short-term, exploratory research (1 year, max. €50,000), Kern is suitable for more in-depth projects with a larger budget and a longer duration. The partners' own contribution for Kern is 50% of the total project costs, compared to 25% for Start.

Part of the CIIIC programme

CIIIC Kern is part of the Nationaal Groeifonds programme Creative Industries Immersive Impact Coalition (CIIIC). The programme aims to strengthen the Dutch IX sector and put it on the international map, with attention to public values such as privacy and accessibility.

Heleen Rouw, Programme Director CIIIC: "Research into methodology for immersive content is essential to be able to scale up and add new application areas for IX; meaningful with impact on society and the economy."
